An amazing video is in heavy circulation online alleging to show an 880 KM Unbelievable Highway now open between China & Pakistan. Accompanying messages also claim the highway is built within a record period of just 36 months. No, the claims are not true.
Not Highway Between China and Pakistan
The video is circulating through various social media posts on Facebook and Twitter, garnering millions of views with the claims. Parts from the three-and-half minutes video are also circulating on YouTube like here and here. The video is indeed amazing and shows a high-tech, elevated bridge built across various terrains like mountains, snow and rivers. However, it is not any 880 KM new Highway China opened now to connect with Pakistan.
A Chinese Facebook page Travel boutique shared the same video in November 2018 with actual description – it is Yaxi Highway (Expressway) in China. China Xinhua News also shared a clipping of the video on Twitter, describing the stunning aerial view of Yaxi Expressway as an Engineering marvel.
Yaxi Expressway in Sichuan province of China is spread over 240-kilometer (149-mile) – it has ‘ladder like’ road that gradually goes high. Chinese central government started the Yaxi Expressway project in 2007 and opened it to motorists in April 2012. The amazing expressway is made up of 270 viaducts and 25 tunnels.

Another, Friendship Highway
On the other hand, there’s a China-Pakistan Friendship Highway – over 1,200 kilometers long – called the Karakoram Highway or National Highway N–35. The highway connects the Pakistani provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plus Gilgit-Baltistan with China’s Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region. It is also a part of the Asian Highway AH4 and a popular tourist attraction. Karakoram Highway is often called the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ because of its high elevation and the difficult conditions in which it was constructed. It took 20 years for both the governments to build the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway from 1959 to 1979.

About the Photograph
The photograph of 101-year-old woman carrying a Baby on hospital bed is indeed heart-warming. However, it comes from a different context. What you see is in fact great grandma Rosa Camfield with her two-week-old granddaughter Kaylee Rowland. Sarah Hamm of Gilbert, Arizona shared the photograph in early 2015 showing “101-year difference” between her new baby and the family’s oldest living relative. Unfortunately, the old woman passed away later on.
The photograph became viral at the time gaining millions of views after Life of Dad social network site shared it. Consequently, Life of Dad received many such touching photographs from fans.

In January 2016, World News Daily Report website worldnewsdailyreport.com published a related article. Carrying a title “101-Year-Old Woman Gives Birth After Successful Ovary Transplant,” the article said the Italian woman Anatolia Vertadella gave birth to a 9-pound baby after a controversial ovary transplant. It also mentioned the birth of her 17th child was criticized by medical professionals because of the overage factor.

Despite the claims, we did not find any credible reports about Anatolia Vertadella, a 101-year-old woman giving birth to her 17th child. World News Daily Report is in fact a well-known fake-news publisher using satirical and fictional content. Earlier in January 2014, the website published a similar hoax story saying USA mother gives birth to 17 Babies at once.
So, the claims about a 101 year old woman giving birth to her 17th baby are just hoaxes. Nonetheless, false stories from the old satirical/fictional article keep surfacing again with similar ‘shocking’ claims.

A heavily popular image circulating through social media claims to show Photograph of a Raccoon standing upright near a doorway and Carrying a Cat/Kitten in its paws. The image has been viral online because of the cute nature of it. However, it is not real and explained here.

Firstly, there are also other variants of the image in circulation. While some show just the Raccoon standing on its paws, others also show a Fire Extinguisher hanging over a wall beside the creature.
While images with Raccoon are circulating online since at least 2011, the older variants of the background image go back to 2007. In place of Raccoon, the older version of the image showed McDonald in the form of a kid in GIF format.

Likewise, the images of Raccoon and Cat also appeared in many funny memes and ‘aww’ images carrying descriptions like “Please. My wife. She’s very sick.”
To conclude, the images of Raccoon standing upright and carrying a cat or kitten in its paws is not real – it is a Photoshop creation. For your information, Raccoons and Cats do get along fine in most cases. However, Cat is a pet and Raccoon is not.

Facts Analysis:
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in India ordered prohibition of RO Filters in Delhi areas with Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) less than 500 per liter. They cited consumers’ health and also environmental concerns. They pointed the current system of Reverse Osmosis discards about 80% of processed water leading to huge wastage. The Tribunal also directed the Ministry of Environment to frame rules for manufacturing and sale of RO filters in India. So, let us examine in detail the concerns about the RO water filter systems.
What is Reverse Osmosis?
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification process using partially permeable membrane to remove ions, unwanted molecules and larger particles from drinking water. The purification involves application of pressure to overcome Osmotic pressure and force molecules through the semi-permeable membrane.
In the beginning, demineralized water, distilled water, deionized or reverse osmosis-treated water use included only for – industrial, technical and laboratory purposes. Their use in drinking water treatment began from 1960’s because of increasing water demands due to various reasons like population growth, high living standards and industrialization. Notably, demineralization of water was in fact needed where the primary or the only abundant water source available was highly mineralized brackish water or sea water. Unfortunately, their use in treating drinking water increased widely both from Governments and also consumers’ side at domestic-front.

Many countries around world use Reverse osmosis water filters purification to improve water for the sake of drinking and cooking. On the other hand, there are also concerns of its use. RO filters do not just kill the bacteria; they also remove all salts and essential nutrients like Calcium and Magnesium. World Health Organization (WHO) suggests the minimum/optimum concentration of calcium and magnesium in drinking water signifies “energy content”.

A 1980 WHO report mentioned completely demineralized water (distillate) has unsatisfactory organoleptic properties and a definite adverse influence on the animal/human consumer. For example, many studies show higher water Magnesium is related to decreased risks for Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and especially for sudden death from CVD. On the other hand, consuming water low in Magnesium and Calcium are related to neural and bone issues among others. The WHO report concluded making international and national authorities responsible for drinking water quality. WHO said they should set guidelines/standards for specifying the minimum content of the relevant elements like Calcium, Magnesium and TDS.
Rejected Water Wastage
Many urban homes are using RO filters/devices to purify water. Apart from offering clean drinking water, they also cause a huge amount of water wastage in return. On an average, for every one liter of water purified, RO filters reject about three to four liters. The waste water carries with it the rejected contaminants. If there’s high content of total dissolved solids (TDS), the water rejected is not even suitable for gardening, bathing or cleaning vessels. It’s only use is in flushing toilets. Moreover, there are also concerns if metals and chemicals trapped in the brine can cause an environmental impact.
Such water wastage has been a disastrous consequence for mega cities like Delhi where large-scale use of household RO devices has increased the total water demand. In its order, NGT also directed wherever RO is permitted, manufacturers should ensure recovery of more than 60 % water.
Expert Opinions
M V Shashirekha, former chemist at the Department of Mines and Geology in Bangalore explained the matter. She said RO plants are good for highly contaminated groundwater with nitrate, fluoride, etc. “From other sources though, RO filtered water can be harmful as it removes all essential nutrients“, she adds. Unfortunately, the current RO plants do not have a calibration to consider the water source.
S Vishwanath, a water expert with the Biome Environmental Trust in Bengaluru says RO is an overkill most times.
“RO is an overkill most times. In Bengaluru, 95% of the tap water is good to drink. We assume that it is not potable and invest in devices like these without a thought“.
“If there are only physical impurities in the water, a simple candle filter is good enough. For biological impurities like bacteria or viruses in the water, then an ultra violet (UV) filter can be used. If only chemical properties are bad — like the presence of TDS — then an RO is necessary,” he adds.
On the other hand, an expert committee set up by The National Green Tribunal suggested RO technology “is generally not required for the places having piped water supplies (primarily supplied by Municipal Corporations/Municipalities) from surface water sources like rivers, lakes and ponds. These sources have TDS levels for low as compared to groundwater sources.” NGT directed Ministry of Environment and Forests to create awareness that TDS of at least 150 – which includes dissolved calcium and minerals in drinking water – is necessary for healthy water.

Since many years, the strange claims are appearing on various online platforms sharing weird and historical facts. Happy Meal is a kids’ meal McDonald’s has been selling since 1979. It usually comes in a red cardboard box including a small toy from current trend along with the food. The stories in circulation claim McDonald’s distributed the happy meals with condom by mistake and even apologized for it later. However, the fact of the matter is something different.
Related Incident(s) from Past
In April 2007, a McDonald’s restaurant in New Zealand gave away a condom with one of its children’s meals. The condom came inside a small sports bag coming free with the meal. A spokesperson for McDonalds explained the sports bags were a late substitute for the previous Happy Meal toy, which were sold out. The sports bag ending up with the customer was not sealed and used for display purposes. He said the condom ended up in it somehow and the bag with the customer. The staff replaced the bag immediately for a pencil case. In 2009 again, a 7-year-old girl allegedly discovered a condom in her McDonald’s Happy Meal and reports said Swiss police were investigating into the incident.

Following such reports, CAP News website cap-news.com published an article in June 2010 with title “McDonald’s Apologizes For Condoms In Happy Meals.” It said McDonald’s executives carried egg (McMuffin) faces after knowing the distribution of 5,000 Happy Meals with colored condoms in place of a plastic toy from movie ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’.

In June 2019, some messages said, “Queen Elizabeth suffers a heart attack and goes into a coma for a whole year.” Earlier in April 2018 also there were stories about “Queen Elizabeth II Dead at 94” saying she succumbed to a heart stroke. An ‘extreme’ video is circulating on social media alleging to show Public Execution of a Rapist in Dubai just after 15 minutes of the incident. The messages claim the man shot to death in public view after judicial orders in rape case of a 5-year-old girl. On the other hand, viewers suggested similar punishment in India also after a Hyderabad gang rape killed a young veterinary doctor. Although the video is real, it is not from Dubai.

Yes, the public execution of the rapist back on 14th August 2017 is not from Dubai – it is in fact from Yemen. Hussein al-Sakit (22) was convicted of abducting, raping and murdering a four-year-old girl, whom he later buried. Following judicial orders, a police officer shot the rapist several times in public until he died at Tahrir Square in Capital city of Sanaa. After shooting, a crane hung up the rapist’s body for the crowd to see. The young girl victim’s uncle said the public execution would act as a “deterrent for criminals.”

The unfortunate rape incident took place back in November 2015, so the judgment did not come after 15 minutes like mentioned in the messages. However, the public execution was second such death sentence controlled by Shia Houthi rebels in Yemen. Earlier on 31st July 2017, Muhammad al-Maghrabi was shot dead with a rifle after getting convicted in raping and murdering a three-year-old girl.

The claims, however, are mixture of hoax and facts explained here.

Firstly, the message circulating widely on social media is not pertaining to Telangana Police – it is in fact a new scheme from Ludhiana Police. In early December 2019, Ludhiana Commissionerate launched the free-ride scheme for women who are alone and fail to find a ride in odd/night hours. Amid growing concerns over women safety, Ludhiana Police of Punjab started the initiative for women in distress during night hours. The Commissioner of Police also said the free ride scheme for women was in the pipeline for some time.
Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh also tweeted about the free police help for women in Punjab.
Women in Punjab can avail free police help to reach their homes safely anytime between 9 PM-6 AM. This facility will be available via-100, 112 & 181 through which you will be connected to Police Control Room. Women in distress can also call the concerned SHE teams available on WhatsApp.

The brutal rape and murder of a young woman veterinarian in fact shocked India and police killed all four accused in an encounter. However, the accompanying photograph is an old one and does not show the same.
About the Case
On 27th November 2019, four young men gang-raped and murdered a young woman veterinarian in Hyderabad. After the woman succumbed to death, the four drunk men burnt her body in Shamshabad area. The brutal rape and murder of the young woman shocked entire nation and Telangana police caught the accused soon. Consequently, many people took to streets in protest of the heinous crime – asking to kill the accused.
The four accused were produced in court and sent to police remand. All 4 accused were killed in a police encounter in early hours of 6th December 2019. Police said they had to open fire when the rapists tried to escape and seized a police gun while being taken to the crime spot for reconstruction of the incident. Many people and the family of the victim applauded the encounter after heinous crime and expressed their gratitude towards Telangana police.

The photograph doing rounds on social media is not from the encounter scene killing the criminals in Hyderabad gangrape-and-murder case. It in fact shows an old, unrelated incident from April 2015. In an alleged encounter in the Seshachalam forest, Police killed twenty woodcutters from Tamil Nadu, found felling red sanders . The incident took place while Andhra Pradesh’s Red-sanders Anti-Smuggling Taskforce was on a combing operation.

Messages accompanying the 15 seconds video claim to show the baby Bear won’t let go of his Hero who saved it from forest fire. Although the video looks heart-warming, the claim as such is not true.
Video Shows Baby Bear Hugging Rescue Ranger?
The story in question reminds us of a similar claim from the past showing photograph of a terrified Panda hugging a Police officer’s leg after Earthquake. The photograph popular online in fact came from a different context.
The video alleging to show the Baby Bear hugging its rescue ranger was viral earlier in 2016 also. Back then it appeared widely on social media platforms and some news outlets also reported about the ‘adorable’ moment. Further, some commented why the man did not pick up or cuddle the cute baby bear hugging around his leg.
The video dates back to at least August 2011 when YouTube channel epicrussia shared it with the description – Cutest bear attack ever. More importantly, it does not show any aftermath of a forest fire incident. The video in fact shows a fog scene.
If it was a fire scene and smoke, the men in the video would not be so chilled. Note, one of the police people in the video is having a cup of some hot drink in relaxed mode. Towards the end of the video, you can also see couple of kids chilling around the scene.

A video viral online alleges to show U.S. President Donald Trump’s ‘Wig’ Blowing Off the wind from Plane Engine Propeller. The incident appears to happen while Trump is giving a statement to media – revealing he is bald headed on top. Despite the popularity, the video is not real and the accompanying claim is not true.

Firstly, the story reminds us of an old popular one showing photograph of Tollywood movie star Mahesh Babu having a Bald Head, suggesting he underwent hair transplant.
The story about Trump went viral because authenticity of Donald Trump’s hair is often disputed – whether or not it is real. Years back also, a photograph went viral online alleging to show Donald Trump with no Wig or makeup.
Coming to the video in question, it carries watermarks of both abc (news) and the White House website. However, there’s no such video on either websites. In particular, there’s no reaction from couple of Trump’s security personnel standing around him. Moreover, considering the President’s security, it is unlikely he will be allowed to stand so close to Plane Engine Propeller. All these are clear signs suggesting the video is not real and humor rather. YouTube Channel of The White House shared the original video on 9th November 2019 carrying description – President Trump Delivers Remarks Upon Departure.
To explain, you can see no such incident takes place. The video is in fact edited and doctored to fabricate the fake and funny scene of Donald Trump losing his ‘wig’. There are also other videos alleging to show news reporters laughing as Trump’s wig falls off in the doctored footage.
So, all these video alleging to show Donald Trump is bald headed and wears a wig are not real.

Various messages in circulation online claim Hyderabad
police investigation revealed the main accused in Hyderabad rape and murder,
Mohammed Pasha is Owaisi’s Nephew. In the highly unpopular and unfortunate incident,
a young woman veterinarian was set ablaze after brutal gangrape. The claims in
question are doing rounds on social media via some videos and messages. So, let
us examine whether there’s any truth to the ‘revelation’.
Hyderabad Rapist Not Owaisi’s Nephew
The claims in question originated from a YouTube video study news channel published on 4th December 2019. The video taken down later also came up with other allegations. It said the Hyderabad gangrape victim was an animal activist, who worked against cow smuggling and helped in arresting many Muslim cow smugglers. Further, it says her actions angered the President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi. So, in revenge, the video claimed this angered Owaisi and he plotted the entire rape and murder conspiring with his nephew Mohammed Pasha.

The video went viral on social media because of the unusual
claims and subsequently, many social media and WhatsApp users passed on the
same. Despite the claims, the allegations on Owaisi are not true.
Senior assistant editor of Times of India in Hyderabad, Sudhakar Reddy clarified the victim was not a cow vigilante. He also confirmed the rapist Mohammed Pasha was not a relative/nephew of Owaisi. When Times of India contacted Owaisi himself, he rubbished the claims as rumors. AIMIM Public Relations Officer Mohammed Tauseef also called it fake news and filed a complaint with the Hyderabad police in this regard. Below is a copy of the complaint.

So, the Hyderabad rapist, Mohammed Pasha, a lorry driver,
was not a relative/nephew of AIMIM President Owaisi. The victim was also not a
cow vigilante and Owaisi did not plan any conspiracy against her. The
allegations are in fact fabricated stories.

Certain disturbing pictures and videos are doing rounds
online with various claims. They allege to show an Alien Baby Born from Woman
Womb in India. Other versions claim it’s a Demon child who killed its mother
and also nurse thereafter. However, the ‘disturbing’ living being is not any
alien. It’s an unfortunate human baby born in Bihar’s capital Patna.
Not Any Alien or Demon Baby Born in India
What you see in pictures and videos circulating online is in fact a human baby girl born in Jan 2017 at Paliganj Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Patna, Bihar, India. The unfortunate condition of the human baby is due to a rare genetic disorder called Harlequin Ichthyosis. After the rare birth, the child’s parents were traumatized, and reportedly, the devastated mother refused to hold or breastfeed the baby. It was a case of normal delivery, but the baby was born premature after 32 weeks, instead of 36 weeks. In the Hindi news footage below, you can see large number of nearby people flocking to see the ‘Alien/demon’ baby born.

Harlequin Ichthyosis is a severe genetic disorder mainly affecting the skin. Significantly, it causes thickening of the skin and facial deformities. It affects the shape of the eyelids, nose, mouth, and ears; limiting movement of the arms and legs. Infants born with Harlequin Ichthyosis are prone to various infections, and their survival is extremely rare.

Similar Incidents in Past
In June 2016, a similar baby girl was born with Harlequin Ichthyosis at Lata Mangeshkar College and Hospital in Nagpur. In that case a 23-year-old woman from Amravati city gave birth to the infant by caesarean section. Unfortunately, the baby girl survived only for couple of days.
U.S. woman Stephanie Turner survived Harlequin Ichthyosis and gave birth to kids also
On the other hand, United States woman Stephanie Turner from Arkansas survived the condition for many years and even gave birth to a healthy baby boy at the age of 23 years.

is doing rounds online in different Indian languages with similar allegations
of conspiracy behind price rise of Onions. A man speaking in audio warns onion traders
not to take onions from the consignment stranded at Ghojadanga border of West
Bengal. He says the loads of onion in at least 200 trucks are lying there from
25th September to 5th of October. No party is coming to buy the truck loads of
Onion and no transport people are picking up calls, he adds. Further, he says
the bottom loads of onion in all trucks have rotten and suggests truck people
never to load onions from the place.

Price Increase
The price of onions in India has shot up because of heavy rains and flooding in extensive parts of India. They also damaged significant amount of onion stocks in storage and delayed the next round of produce.
Onion prices sky rocket in India due to shortage in supply
In a comment about the matter, a journalist Dipti Raut says the shortage of onions – and subsequent rise in prices – happens almost every year. She also said it’s a vicious cycle, where traders often lobby and middlemen benefit from even the slightest price fluctuations. On the other hand, onion is India’s most “political” vegetable.

In early October 2019, a woman from Aam Aadmi Party shared the same video on Facebook claiming 200 truckloads of onions is left to rot purposefully to black market them and increase price.

Despite the claims, we did not find credible reports of the said conspiracy to escalate onion prices. Like the audio suggests, the old video is from October 2019 not when Onion prices sky rocketed. To find facts about the stranded trucks of onion, we checked the news reports between September and October months of 2019. The video actually shows a total of 225 trucks from Nashik carrying 6,750 tonnes of onions stranded at the border due to a ban on exports.
Export Consignment to Bangladesh
Due to rising prices of onions, India banned export of onions on 29th September 2019 to compensate for shortage of supply in the domestic market. The trucks stranded at Mahadipur and Ghojadanga border areas in West Bengal, Nashik were in fact carrying export load of Onions to Bangladesh. They started before the ban on export and had to hold back for some days at border area. Consequently, onion traders met Dindori MP Bharti Pawar, who escalated the matter to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. The trucks were eventually allowed to enter Bangladesh on 4th October 2019. Dhaka Tribune website dhakatribune.com also reported the incident saying a consignment of around 1,500 tons of onion loaded in 60 trucks has started entering Bangladesh from India.
So, the video does not suggest Mamata Banerjee & Congress conspire to escalate Onion prices in India. Perhaps, the person speaking in the video is unaware of the export ban scenario and expressing concern over the ‘rotten lot’ of onions.

Massive Quantity of Fake Cumin Seeds
A gang of five men from Shahjahanpur, UP manufactured the fake jeera seeds using Coconut broom bits, stone powder, molasses and grass. They set up a factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli in a single-storey building covered with metal sheets. They used to mix the fake cumin seeds with small portions of real cumin in 80 to 20 ratio. The fake jeera seeds had suspicious color and smell, but the scammers convinced shopkeepers it is a traditional condiment from Rajasthan made in a unique manner. The gang reportedly distributed the fake jeera seeds at wholesale markets across Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Police recovered more than 20,000 kg of fake cumin from the factory and the warehouse in UP. The five men Harinandan, Kamran, Ganga Prasad, Harish and Pawan were arrested on 19th November 2019. Officials said the gang members used to earn 50-60 times more profits by selling the cumin seeds. They also said the seized stock could have been sold for around Rs 60 lakh in the market. Notably, Delhi Police busted a similar racket in earlier month. The racket manufacturing fake cumin (jeera) is believed to have been in operation for more than a year. After arresting, police registered a case against the men for cheating and adulteration of food.

In April 2016, a Fisherman in Malaysia, Anuar Pak Tam shared the video of strange creature on Facebook. The baffled fisherman thought it is some kind of Eel fish. Soon, the video showing the scary creature became popular online as a ‘sea monster’ and viewers wondered what it is.
What you see in the video is in fact an Eel Goby fish. There are many types of fish in the species. For example, shown in picture below is Odontamblyopus lacepedii with similar appearance. The video down shows and describes a species of mud-dwelling, elongated gobies.

According to experts, certain types of gobies (goby fish) possess stout, fang-like teeth. The ridges on their body have sensory structures helping them navigate in deep sea darkness or murky, muddy waters. They do have reduced eyes not much of use in their environment.
So, the Alien-like ‘sea monster’ in the video is a real species of Eel goby fish. On the other hand, some animal lovers criticized the creature is struggling for air lying on the ground out of water and someone is poking and troubling it.

It is in fact a special prop made for science-fiction based Magic Mentah feature film called Amsteroid (2018). The movie features two brothers, one dreamy and starry-eyed and the other earthy and rational, searching for their mother in the asteroid city of Amsteroid. The photograph shows Leelyah, a bizarre animal prop that sniffs out people who have absorbed dark matter into their bodies. Leelyah is bit deformed due to the genetic engineering process.
